Frederick Morgan (1856-1927)




Frederick Morgan (1847/1856 - 1927) was an English artist - portraitist, known for his sentimental genre paintings depicting children and animals in the countryside. His paintings were very popular during the life of the artist and often published in magazines.
Frederick Morgan was born in London in 1847, then moved with his parents in the small town of Aylesbury on the Isle of Wight, with three years of living in Ventnor on the Isle of Wight, then moved to London.
His father, John Morgan (1822, -1885 London, Hastings), a member of the Society of British Artists, studied at the School of Design in London and then in Paris under Thomas Couture (1815-1879), and specialized in historical and biblical scenes.
John Morgan was firmly convinced of the importance of studying art at a young age, so the age of fourteen he took Fred (so named Frederick home) from school and began studying painting with him.
